York Blouse

I love a quick and easy sew.  And the York Blouse by Seamwork patterns does not disappoint!  I love the free Sorbetto tank pattern and hoped York would be its winter equivalent; and it is!

I made this up in time to wear to Thanksgiving dinner and I have worn it several times since then.  Made out of flannel, it is soft, cozy and comfortable.  However, it can be dressed up a little or a lot based on fabric choice and styling.

The easy closure, made with bias tape, forms a pretty finish easy to sew closure, but could also be changed to a button and loop closure easily.  I made my own bias tape from this plaid.  I think the pattern of the plaid cut on the bias gives some nice added interest to the neckline.

The split cuffs are also a fun detail and very easy to do with the clear instructions.

I see more York blouses making an appearance in my closet in the future!

Fabric is from JoAnn Fabrics (this one but in navy).

Seamwork is an amazing online, monthly sewing magazine.  The magazine is free each month but if you subscribe (at only $6/month) you get credits for two sewing patterns each month.  You can choose the patterns released that month OR any previous patterns.  Only $3 per pattern!  My favorite thing about Seamwork patterns is that they are great basics with tons of variation potential and each pattern can be sewn up in an afternoon!

  1. […] I’ve used the York Blouse pattern before and thought it would work well to refashion a button down shirt that I’ve had for a while.  I used the buttons down the back and changed the neckline a bit.  I was able to do this because the original shirt was too big and this gave me the extra fabric I needed to “turn it around,” add the bust darts, and redo the sleeves.  I’m thinking about adding some ruffled white eyelet trim to the bottom hem…any thoughts?
